Registration is Now Open for the 2014 Annual Conference

Please plan to attend the Iowa Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association annual conference, January 23-24 in Ankeny, IA. The conference will be held at the FFA Enrichment Center on the DMACC Campus, 1055 SW Prairie Trail Parkway, Ankeny, IA 50023. A map has been included with detailed directions for your convenience.

Why should you become a member of the IFVGA? Here are just a few of the benefits: access to all the presentations from the conference on the website, inclusion in a statewide printable directory of all members that will be passed out during the Iowa State Fair (similar to Buy Fresh Buy Local), farm listing on our website and farm search function, and the recognition of being associated with a highly regarded state wide organization.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ron Hanson as Thursday’s keynote speaker. Professor Hanson is regarded as a widely traveled national speaker who shares an entertaining and motivating message with audiences on the importance of family and personal relationships with other family members when farming and working together in a family owned business operation. Ron’s latest efforts have been directed at resolving the family issues involved with the farm business ownership succession and the transfer of management control between generations. Friday we welcome Ken and Barb Hall of Edwards Orchard. They will be sharing their triumphant story of rebuilding after a tornado destroyed their farm. Always wanted to join the social media frenzy but unsure how? Bring your laptop or tablet and attend one of our social media sessions for beginners. By the end of the session your farm will have their own Facebook page. Stay for the next session and learn how to begin marketing like a pro with your new page! Take time to listen to our seed reps as they tell you what new varieties and technology they have to offer. Doing a traditional CSA and looking to expand or something alternative? Check out our 3 session tract on CSA’s. Hear from a successful farm growing their CSA, listen to another farm’s experience of bringing 2 other farms into their existing CSA, and finally hear how one farm gave up their traditional CSA and are driving customers to their farm through social media! There will be something for everyone at this year’s conference!

Back by popular demand is the all-day advanced high tunnel tract Friday, January 24th This year the tract will be on Brambles featuring Iowa State Horticulturists: Linda Naeve, Joe Hannan, and Ajay Nair.
There are 30+ exhibitors in the trade show with the latest seeds, supplies, high tunnel, irrigation, equipment, and grower information. There will be ample opportunities to visit with other growers, exhibitors and speakers during the conference. It will be an excellent educational opportunity!
